Una vecchia leggenda giojosana narra che qualche centinaio di anni fa un gruppo di ingegnosi abitanti di Giojosa Guardia vollero provare se le grotte di Contrada Urghi, alle pendice del Monte di Guardia, fossero veramente collegate - per come si diceva nella Guardia di allora - con le grotte che sono alla base del Monte Meliuso, tanto nel punto terminale di Ciappe di Tono che in quello del Promontorio di Capo Calavà.
Si dice che i giojosani buttarono numerose palle di fieno nelle grotte e che poi scesero alle Marine per aspettarne la comparsa.
Pare che a distanza di qualche giorno, tanto a largo della Spiaggia del Bove quanto a largo delle Grotte della Marina, il fieno che venne buttato nelle cavità di Contrada Urghi (che dall'intenso rumore d'acqua gorgeggiante che sale dagli incavi che tagliano alcune sue rocce prende appunto il nome) affiorasse a galla.
